In Memory of Steve Job - Top 10 of his quotes

The world today remembers Steve Job -CEO and Co-Founder of Apple. He died on the 5th of October, 2011 after battling pancreas tumor for about 8 years. Apple has posted a tribute to him on the front page of their website and you can also share your thoughts through the email address rememberingsteve@apple.com and have it displayed on Apple website

Below are some of his memorable and inspiring quotes

1. "What a computer is to me is the most remarkable tool that we have ever come up with. It's the equivalent of a bicycle for our minds." (film "Memory & Imagination," 1990)

2. "I end up not buying a lot of things, because I find them ridiculous." (The Independent, 2005)

3. "I think death is the most wonderful invention of life. It purges the system of these old models that are obsolete." (Playboy, 1985)

4. "People think focus means saying yes to the thing you've got to focus on. But that's not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I'm actually as proud of the things we haven't done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying no to 1,000 things." (Apple Worldwide Developers' Conference, 1997)

5. "Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn't matter to me. ... Going to bed at night saying we've done something wonderful -- that's what matters to me." (CNNMoney/Fortune, 1993)

6. "My job is not to be easy on people. My job is to make them better." (CNNMoney/Fortune, 2008)

7. "If you want to live your life in a creative way, as an artist, you have to not look back too much. You have to be willing to take whatever you've done and whoever you were and throw them away." (Playboy, 1985)

8. "Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower." ("The Innovation Secrets of Steve Jobs," 2001)
9. "My model for business is the Beatles. They were four guys who kept each other's kind of negative tendencies in check. They balanced each other, and the total was greater than the sum of the parts. That's how I see business: Great things in business are never done by one person. They're done by a team of people." ("60 Minutes," 2003)

10. "I would trade all my technology for an afternoon with Socrates." (Newsweek, 2001)

Tips for working securely from wireless hotspots

Let me first apologize for MIA, I'm back now and there's loads of info and much more for y'all.

I received an email with these tips and I thought to share it here.

Wireless (also known as Wi-Fi) hot spots, are changing the way people work. These wireless local area networks (WLANs) provide high-speed Internet connections in public locations (and at home). You can access them with a wireless-ready mobile PC, such as a laptop, netbook, smartphone, or any other mobile device equipped with a wireless card.

Hots pots range from paid services, such as T-Mobile, Verizon, MTN, Glo, SWIFT, Etisalat, Airtel Wireless, to free, public connections. Hot spots are everywhere, including coffee shops, restaurants, libraries, bookstores, airports, trains, and hotel lobbies.
Many of these places will inform you that they have a hot spot for wireless Internet use and will tell you how to access it, including providing you with a password, if necessary.  Continue to

Facework and not Facebook Lagos State tells workers

As practiced in most corporate organizations, social media network sites (Facebook, twitter, badoo, linkedin etc) are not allowed to be accessed on their corporate network. In the case that they do, it is restricted to a certain time of the day; usually from 4:00pm (or non-productive time of the organization).
Lagos State Government has joined our corporate organizations to bar its workers from using Facebook, Twitter and others.Staff are still allowed to access their personal mail like Yahoo and Gmail.

Workers who had attempted to log into their Facebook accounts on Monday were surprised when a login window popped up with inscription "Lagos State Internet User Portal".

A staff who spoke under anonymity, said government may have be pushed to take the harsh decision as some staff spent most part of the day on social networks rather than carry out their official duties. "Some staff use the office computer systems to chat on Facebook, twitter rather than doing their jobs when they come to work. Some come as early as 7:00am just to come and access Facebook and chat with their friends.

Back N' Better

I learned another great lesson this past week: You can do without anything and anybody but God.
I started my blog a month and five days ago and I've been so dedicated such that I research everyday. I thought to myself during this time that a day will not pass me by without checking up on my blog or at least do some sort of findings on the "net". I was under the weather for a whole week and believe me, the only time I remember I had a blog was the first day. Thank God am BACK and BETTER and ready to share the little I know.

HOW TO: Fix a DRIVE that cannot open on DOUBLE CLICK

Welcome to the "HOW TO" segment of this blog. This segment will feature ways to fix computers, phones, tips and tricks etc.

Have you ever had problem opening your drive partitions or external drive with a mouse double click? Most times when i try to open my drive (external disk especially), instead of the drive opening, i get a dialog box with "Open With". Yea! I know most times we work around it and open the drive at the end of the day but the fact that you drive cannot open with a mouse double click is a problem caused by a VIRUS.

The Virus usually creates a file named autorun.inf (a read only file and usually hidden) in the root directory which blocks and restrict access to drives. When you open any drive, this file initiates all the activities of the virus.
The STEPS after the cut show how to delete the autorun.inf and get double click access to your drive.

7.      The name Yahoo! is an acronym for "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle” but Filo and Yang insist they selected the name because they liked the general definition of a yahoo: "rude, unsophisticated, uncouth.
8.      The world’s first web server was the NeXT computer used by Tim Berners-Lee
9.      The “www” part of a web site e.g (www.google.com) is optional and not required by any web policy or standard.

The smartphone lets users dial a number with the voice-assisted touchscreen and uses speech input to send text messages. It comes pre-loaded with a data SIM card. Users with pre-existing phone contracts can have it transferred to the new device or install a pay-as-you-go SIM card.

While talking to the press, Mr Wilson-Hinds said "It's exactly the type of digital experience we want to make easily available to people with little or no sight. It is also going to help solve everyday problems for blind people so they can be more confident about navigating the real world and become independent,"
